"Art Project for Saxum,"

CEBU, Philippines - The exhibit, entitled "Art Project for Saxum," presents a range of artworks that were made after the conclusion of an art workshop with visual artist Celso Pepito by the students of PAREF-Southcrest School and the members of the artists group Cebu Artists Inc.

Tastefully made representational and contemporary-themed landscapes, seascapes and thematic process-and-content oriented visual tableaus are on display. The exhibit goes beyond illustrating and exemplifying how beneficial the inputs of established artists can be in the holistic formation of young creative talents - as it also pays homage to the beatification of the first bishop prelate of the Opus Dei - Alvaro del Portillo - on September 27 in Madrid. The Venerable Alvaro del Portillo served as the prelate of the Opus Dei between 1982 and 1994.

Born in Madrid, Spain in 1914, Portillo was referred to by St. Josemaria Escriva - the founder of the Opus Dei - as "Saxum," a nickname that means "rock." He was declared Venerable by Pope Benedict XVI on June 28, 2012.

"Art Project for Saxum" runs until tomorrow, September 19, at the second level of the Ayala Center Cebu's new expansion. It is a joint project of the PAREF-Southcrest, Cebu Artists Inc. and the Ayala Center Cebu. (FREEMAN)
