The Freeman’s Glittering 95th Anniversary
Considered the most glittering event of the season, The Freeman's celebration of its 95th anniversary, held at the Santa Maria Grand Ballroom of the posh Radisson Hotel Cebu, was a roaring success!
Founded by Don Paulino Gullas in 1919, the paper had later stopped its circulation due to his joining politics. But Don Paulino's nephew, Jose "Dodong" R. Gullas, revived the paper in 1965, bringing the paper back to existence until this day.
During the anniversary affair, Chairman Jose "Dodong" R. Gullas, President & CEO Miguel G. Belmonte (who flew in all the way from Manila just to attend this all-important event), and Vice-Chairman John Vicente Gullas were at the entrance of the Grand Ballroom to welcome all the guests, who came in their "Roaring 20s" attire and some dressed to the nines. Actually, the affair was to pay tribute to all Advertisers, Newspaper Dealers, News Sources, and The Freeman supporters all these years. And yes, the guests were happily entertained by comedienne Maya Valdes, who titillated everyone with her songs and incomparable adlibs and antics that brought the house down.
In his speech during the momentous event, Sir Dodong said: "Kun buligan sa kahitas-an, five years from now, we will have a grand celebration of our 100 years of serving the Cebuano community." PTL!
