“Pistaym”
CEBU, Philippines - The idea of a train system as a solution to the mass transport problem of Metro Cebu is not at all new. Long before today’s public officials have thought of it, there was already an efficient train service from Danao in the north to Argao in the south.
Memories of the old city remain. These are stored in 77 pre-war photographs taken during the American peacetime period in Cebu. The collection is called “Pistaym,†an exhibit at the lobby of the Cebu City Hall Legislative Building and at the Fort San Pedro recently.
The word “Pistaym†is a transliteration of the English “peacetime.†The photos are from the collection of the Uytingchua family, paternal roots of Mr. Ben Chua who is vice president of Hamiling Binilin (Hambin) of the History Department of the University of San Carlos. The photos have been enlarged to exhibit sizes (18x26 inches), courtesy of the Cebu City Downtown Revitalization Project.
