CEBU, Philippines - A Cebuana took the crown as Miss Philippines Earth 2014 on May 11 at the Mall of Asia Arena. She bested 48 other candidates from all over the country.
Back in September last year, Jamie Herrell was also chosen first female Mega Cebu Ambassador 2013, during the search for youth ambassadors of Mega Cebu, the collaborative platform that envisions a Wholesome, Advanced, Vibrant, Equitable, Sustainable (W.A.V.E.S.) Cebu by 2050.
Herrell represented Cebu City in the contest. During the search, she also won several special awards, including Best in Broadcasting Training, Toastmasters' Choice (together with John Kevin Hernandez of the Municipality of Liloan), Most Passionate Award, and Fabcomm's Choice Award (also with Hernandez).
The winners of the youth ambassador search were judged not only on the basis of "beauty and brains, but also their heart for service to Metro Cebu."
Herrell is going to Yokohama, Japan this October to join a learning visit, representing the youth sector. For his part, Hernandez, the first male Mega Cebu ambassador, is joining the trip this month.
Mega Cebu is based on the framework of a City Region, where local government units are encouraged to collaborate and coordinate policies, plans, programs, projects, and practices addressing common and trans-boundary assets, issues, and challenges. It is a concept promoted and a program spearheaded by the Metro Cebu Development and Coordinating Board.
