The Unspoken Truth

ARTSCENE - Yasunari Ramon Suarez Taguchi - The Freeman

A merging of representational styles and contemporary abstractionist views can be accomplished without being unnecessarily tedious in execution or vehemently crass in presentation. This fact is evident in the works of student artist Rica Maceren in her collection titled "The Unspoken Truth."

Essentially an exploration of the utilization of visual art as a storytelling medium, the show features more than 20 paintings, illustrations and sketches by Maceren, whose distinct attention to detail and fine control of lines, shades and hues are difficult to ignore.

Currently on exhibit at the CAP Art Center along Osmeña Blvd, "The Unspoken Truth" showcases how the student artist self-curates her compositional goals in the making of content-oriented works, apart from exhibiting her capacity to frame temporal semblances of meaning without the use of words.

Maximizing the utilization of space in the making of thought-provoking narrative paintings, Maceren's firm understanding of thematic contrast also plays an important role in how she metaphorically bridges her thoughts and sentiments to audiences.

Born and raised in Cebu, Rica Maceren is a Fine Arts Painting Major of Silliman University's Fine Arts program.

More than just an exhibit that is meant to comply with her course's requirements, "The Unspoken Truth" is a statement about how an artist of Maceren's caliber is likely to delve into the art world's hyperrealist genre in the coming days, considering how she churns out art pieces that are more than just eye candy.

The exhibit runs until March 8.
