CEBU, Philippines - More than just hitting the ball, students from the University of Cebu also hit the high notes and swept most of the top awards in the cultural contests of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) singing competition.
Besting all other young singers from Cebu's prominent private colleges and universities, UC bagged the Grand Prizes in the College Division with Genevieve Roche S. Flores in the Song Solo category along with Maria Flora May C. Mahusay and Reymar Nacion in the Duet category.
Moreover, UC's Jed Nicloe Alerta and Nayela Breigh Nocquiao bagged the second prize in the High School Division Duet Category while Jose Raymundo C. Rom won the third prize in the High School Division Song Solo Category.
Likewise, UC's Cyril Mae Cabahug gained the third prize in the Elementary Division Song Solo Category.
Guided by UC teachers and vocal coaches Windey Prado Avendaño and Zenith Rivera, these Casafi singing champions underwent a thorough workshop under director/choreographer Rudy Aviles and held a series of practice sessions to be thoroughly prepped for the event.
The Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) is a sports association of 12 senior and junior member schools, colleges and universities in Cebu, Philippines. Established in 2001, the CESAFI holds several sports tournaments year-round including academic and cultural contests.
