Embrace your life's journey

I got a call the other day from a relative in the U.S. and in the midst of our conversation, she asked me if there are times when I would miss my children who are living abroad. I told her, that there are times in my life that I would miss my children, despite of our regular communication through Skype.

I believe that this is a normal feeling for parents especially when the house has become an “empty nest.” Whenever this kind of longing hits me, I would not dwell on it. Instead, I would embrace it as a part of my life. I would look back and cherish the wonderful memories I had with them. I would console myself with the thought that my children are living a good life.

I believe that whatever journey we are in, we must embrace it, otherwise, we  may feel  discontented and unhappy in this world. Life is indeed a journey that each one of us has to travel. Whatever it is, we must embrace it. There are rough edges along the way, and our attitude truly matters. When we find ourselves envious on the kind of life that other people have, we have to bear in mind that in this world there are people who are better than us, and there are those who are worst than us. And that makes us grounded.

The “eHowMom.com” has its own insights on this matter. I am sharing some with you today:

*Ignore the lives of celebrities. Our cultural obsession with the rich and famous must stop. We don’t know the kind of journey they are traveling through. Reading tabloids  and celebrity profiles will only make you inferior.

*Never compare yourself to others. A dahlia flower does not wish to be a rose; a crow does not wish to be an eagle; a person must not wish to be someone other than herself. Just be happy of what you are and be content of what you have.

*Remember, you can’t take any of it with you in the end. We will all die and so it doesn’t really matter how much you accomplish or how many possessions you accrue. What matters most is the amount of joy you spread, gratitude you exude, and peace you cultivate.

In life our outlook truly matters. Hence, the “Motivate Us.com” has these food-for-thought:

*Life is a journey filled with lessons, hardships, heartaches, joys and celebrations, and special moments that will ultimately lead us to our destination, our purpose in life. The road will not always be smooth; in fact, throughout our travels, we will encounter many challenges.

*Some of these challenges will test our courage, strengths, weaknesses and faith. Along the way, we may stumble upon obstacles to take. In order to follow the right path, we must overcome these obstacles.

*When things do not always go our way, we have two choices in dealing with the situation. We can focus on the fact that things didn’t go how we had hoped they would and let life pass us, or we can make the best out of the situation and know that these are only temporary setbacks, and find the lessons that are to be learned.

*It is often said that what doesn’t kill you will make you “stronger.” This means, it allows you to look deep into your soul and realize that the person you are today couldn’t exist if it weren’t for the things that have happened in the past or the people that you have met. Everything that happens in our life happens for a reason. Sometimes that means we must face heartaches in order to experience joy.
