CEBU, Philippines - Lapu-Lapu City was named after the hero who defended it. He was the datu of the community. Before, Lapu-Lapu City was very green with various trees all over. The settlers' means of livelihood were fishing and farming.
Today, Lapu-Lapu City has become an industrial and commercial city. Buildings, houses and stalls are everywhere while farms are starting to get rare. Malls like Gaisano, Savemore and Marina Mall were built, too. Despite these developments, Lapu-Lapu is still the address of the most beautiful spot – the Mactan Shrine, where its brave hero's statue stands. (FREEMAN)
