A unique art exhibition celebrated its opening last October 12, putting the spotlight on the works of Cebu's next generation of artistic talents.
Presented by the University of the Visayas New School of Art & Design (UVNS) with the support of Gilt Artisan Lounge and JBA Advertising, Pillars of Art is the first exhibit of its caliber organized by UVNS outside its campus, held in Gilt Artisan Lounge in The Crosroads, Banilad.
Gathering more than 30 works made by 13 Visual Design students under the mentorship of Hannah Martinez, the show takes its name and all-encompassing theme from the fundamentals of design, as covered by the curriculum its exhibiting talents are enrolled in.
Showcasing the works of student-designers Yuno Bastareche, Gio Bayon-on, Red Duterte, Elijah Escobedo, Rabbi Fernan, Alexandra Iso, Quennie Jomao-as, Elle Mancao, Raymond Mantilla, Mac Nierra, Myco Pastoriza, Angel Rubio and Gilcy Wagas, Pillars of Art manages to go beyond simply presenting how much its featured talents have learned about the basic elements of design - line, shape, color, value, texture, form, and the principles of art - also proffering what one can expect from its exhibiting talents in the days ahead.
In its entirety, Pillars of Art can be likened to the working definition of a coda, as an independent passage that is often found at the end of a composition, introduced to bring it to a satisfactory close.
In Pillars of Art's case though, nothing is brought down to a close - rather opened and set free to soar towards higher highs.
