CEBU, Philippines - Zumba exercise has soared high as it penetrates the community through dancing - Latin, Indian, Mexican and hiphop. People from walks of life grasp the world of Zumba as it helps them to be slim and fit through dancing – they need not go to the gym to sweat or do lifting weights. And using Zumba as a means to help others is just as self-improving.
The University of San Jose - Recoletos Supreme Student Council 32nd Congress in line with their different activities, came up with Zumba for a Cause, dubbed as "Zumba for Sudtunggan." USJ-R SSC invites all Josenian students both in highschool and college to join and partake in this meaningful endeavour.
"We have decided on Zumba because it attracts and fits different levels, from highschool students and college students to teachers," explained Hon. Giselle Guioguio, a representative from the College of Engineering and chairman of the said event.
The event was in line in their community outreach program activities and a continuation on their last year's event, the Adelante Run for Sudtunggan. Josenians last year flocked for a fun run and they were able to help a community through that simple event.
This year, through Zumba they are again doing their best to be of help in the community. "Zumba because it is a trend nowadays, you can see it in malls and in sports complex," Giselle added.
The activity will take part on August 5, 2013, 4pm in the USJ-R Basak Campus Football Gym with a registration fee of P100.00.
The proceeds of the event will go to USJ-R SSC's beneficiary in Sudtunggan - a local community in Lapu-lapu City. They aim to build a community centre in the place where people in Sudtunggan can freely use. Aside from that, 10 percent from the proceeds will be able to help student organizations in USJ-R.
It helps that you stay slim and fit and at the same time, be able to help others in one simple beat.
