The FREEMAN supports Project Happy Feet Slipper Race 2013

CEBU, Philippines - Two teams composed of employees from the different departments of The Freeman lent their support to Project Happy Feet Slipper Race 2013 (Resort Edition) held last Saturday, May 25, at Crimson Resort & Spa in Mactan.

Led by General Manager Melandro M. Mendoza, The Freeman Star Troppers walked and ran in their slippers along with other participating teams to raise funds for underprivileged children in the Philippines identified by Bantay Bata 163.

The Project Happy Feet Slipper Race is a brainchild of Project Happy Feet, a Singapore-based non-profit organization set up to empower the lives of underprivileged youths and children in developing countries by supporting their education and training through fund-raising for education-related initiatives and programs that positively impact them or their families.

“The race is inspired by the many school children in countries such as Cambodia who walk more than 3km to school either barefooted or in slippers,” says Mr. Terence Quek, Director of Communications, Project Happy Feet Ltd.

A non-competitive charity walk in slippers, the Project Happy Feet Slipper Race is the first ever race of its kind being held in the Philippines and the first resort edition too, Mr. Quek said.

The event was held around Crimson Resort and Spa where participating teams walked and competed in different games set up along the 5km route. After completing all the games, participants converged at the beach front where they were treated to cocktails and an assortment of grilled goodies.

“It feels good to be here and take part in this initiative that gives underprivileged children a chance at education,” The Freeman Star Troopers member Manuel Abella shares.  Indeed it was a meaningful event for everyone present especially the corporate sponsors who contributed a great deal to the success of the race. — (FREEMAN)
