Tribute to Sinulog 2013

CEBU, Philippines - As an artist, Anthony Fermin has built a reputation for playful compositions and vibrant tones, with works crafted by a rich sense of life as perceived by the artist’s discerning eye.

As such, it isn’t strange to hear of Anthony Fermin: Tribute to Sinulog 2013, given the artist’s reputation for playfully depicting life, matched with the Sinulog’s vibrant and festive feel.

Presented by the Cebu-based Qube Gallery, Anthony Fermin: Tribute to Sinulog 2013 celebrated its opening last January 12, collecting more than 25 acrylic-based artworks manifesting the Sinulog spirit as seen through Fermin’s artistic visions.

Bearing the core ideals of Fermin’s take on how livid with life art should be, Tribute to Sinulog 2013 goes beyond art’s basic role as history’s archiver, with each work telling a story that is crafted to entertain and elevate the spirit, in tune with Fermin’s known and established artistic flair.

Far from simply showcasing eye candy pieces, Tribute to Sinulog 2013 effectively portrays Fermin’s dynamic capacities and capabilities as an artist, with works focusing on the Sto Niño, pieces which depict everyday life backdropped by the Sinulog’s celebrations, and compositions simply focusing on the everyday elements which have become iconic for Cebu.

Combining the unique amalgam that is Sinulog and Fermin’s constantly evolving style, Tribute to Sinulog 2013 is essentially borne from the artist’s balanced view on how color – and the absence of color – can effectively convey and illicit sentiments and emotions, a balance which Fermin has mastered as a forte.

Born in 1976, Anthony Fermin has long been respected as one of the Visayas’ top artistic talents, with a sense of passion and optimism that is mirrored into his works.

With no formal training on the rudiments and dynamics involved in crafting art pieces, Fermin’s multi-disciplinary approach in the creation of art spans for more than 15 years, earning him his share of local and international distinctions.

Anthony Fermin: Tribute to Sinulog 2013, as a show, stands to collect some of Fermin’s more prized masterworks, to date.
