Argao’s Valentine’s Fete
Love was truly in the air in Argao last Valentine’s Day when the Argawanons received a bountiful of love offerings from no less than President Gloria Macapagal – Arroyo through the efforts of Argao’s beloved son, Presidential Management Staff Director General Cerge Remonde and the all-out support of the ever vibrant “mother of the province,” Governor Gwen Garcia.
I am talking about the groundbreaking ceremonies of the soon-to-rise sports and activities center which shall be named the Diosdado Macapagal Sports and Cultural Complex. A “dream project” of Argao’s dynamic mayor, Mayor Edsel Galeos, the complex will be inaugurated in time for the town fiesta in September. I learned it’s going to be a double celebration as this year, Argao will be 400 years old!
Two laudable projects of the provincial government, the Grameen for Women Empowerment Now (GWEN) and the Food Always in the Home (FAITH) were also launched. As PB Member Agnes Magpale mentioned in her message during the event, Mayor Edsel was very prompt in sending all the requirements to Capitol, thus making Argao one of the first beneficiaries of the projects. Wow! Thanks again, Mayor…this is truly admirable and deserving of praise!
Seen during the memorable event were members of the Municipal Council, Capitol department heads, representatives from DPWH and DENR, PB Member Peter Calderon, PB Member Willie Caminero, PB Member Weng Gakit, Ms. Marit Remonde, sports icon Ramon Fernandez with wife Karla, Msgr. Joe Montecillo, Argao’s IT Head Querubin Momongan, Municipal Administrator Ely Sarmago, former Argao ABC President Danny Jumao-as, Argao ABC President Virgilio Rizon, friends from media headed by the suave Sam Costanilla and the competent Roger Serna.

While Argao had its groundbreaking for the soon-to-rise and long overdue sports and activities center, a formal blessing and inauguration of the FYU Corporate Center along Golam Drive in Mabolo took place last February 8 with Monsignor Achilles Dakay as the main celebrant.
Of course, at the helm that afternoon were Kelly and Maris Uy with their ever-supportive parents, Lina Uy, Dodong and Oling Villamor. Here are some photos of that memorable moment. Congratulations and more power!
