Andrea Del Rosario, 44, thought lead role days were over

STAR CIRCUIT - Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

Andrea Del Rosario didn’t expect she’d be offered a lead role at this point in her career. She was pleasantly surprised and readily said yes when she was offered to play Claire in the upcoming Viva movie about relationships titled “May-December-January.”

“I mean, let’s face it, I’m 44. My days as a Viva Hot Babe doing lead roles like in ‘Lupe’ are over. I’ve accepted that I now do character roles. I did ‘Love You Stranger’ on GMA and now I’m in ‘Dirty Linen’ on ABS-CBN,” said Andrea.

“I never thought darating uli sa akin ang ganitong lead role. When Boss Vic del Rosario called me and told me I’d do this film, siyempre, yes agad ako. I mean, the script is written by Ricky Lee, a National Artist no less, saan ka pa, di ba?”

To be fair to Andrea, even if she’s already a mother, she has maintained her beauty and sexiness. And there’s a possibility that she will be given more lead roles after “May-December-January”.

Film director Mac Alejandre said Andrea is their first and only choice. “She perfectly fits the role of Claire as one hot mama na kahit may anak ng grown-up, may appeal and desirable pa rin sa mga bata. She’s mother to Gold Aceron and falls in love with his best friend, Kych Minemoto, but she later finds out that Gold, who’s gay, is also in love with Kych. The mother is the fulcrum of the film and Andrea, all throughout the shoot, she’s always in character.”

Direk Mac added that even if Andrea had several long scenes, including intimate ones, she never complained, same with Gold and Kych. “I am so happy with their performance. Lahat sila may sariling moment where they shine,” he said.

Also at the press conference was National Artist Ricky Lee who wrote the script. “I’m very happy with the movie. It captured our vision about ordinary people, tungkol sa nanay, anak, yung best friend. But extraordinary ang emotions na pinagdaanan nila.”

“We’re so happy with Andrea. Kuhang-kuha niya ang lalim ng character. We’re also happy with Gold and Kych. They really surprised us ni Mac. They all delivered in their respective roles,” said the famed screenwriter.

Andrea also praised her co-stars Gold and Kych. “I felt in my soul that they are my co-actors. They are like old souls, both of them. They are polite, very professional and good actors. They’ll both go a long way in their careers. I’m also lucky to have worked with the tandem of Sir Ricky and Direk Mac.”

She added, “Our movie is one of the best I’ve made and I will definitely include this in my portfolio if and when I pursue a career abroad.”

Direk Mac described his new movie as “a very mature story about love and relationships. Ang pag-ibig ay pagbibigay, hindi puro pagkabig. Wala rin siyang kinikilalang gender.”

“Yung mother dito, nagparaya, but she doesn’t call it sacrifice because hindi naman siya talaga sacrifice kundi pagmamahal. When we give because of love, we become fulfilled,” said the award-winning director.

“May-December-January” opens October 12 in cinemas nationwide. It will have a premiere at SM North EDSA on Oct. 10.

Former child actor Marco Masa plays the teenage Alden Richards in the new GMA series “Start Up” which is a Filipino adaptation of the popular Koreanovela.

Marco appeared in the ABS-CBN series “Honesto” and “Nathaniel” as well as in the movies “Beauty and the Bestie” and “Sunshine Family.” No wonder he looks familiar to viewers of Alden and Bea Alonzo’s show.

He plays the teenager who leaves his evil aunt and was taken by Lola Joy (played by Ms. Gina Alajar) under her care, not knowing he is the crush of Lola Joy’s granddaughter who is being portrayed by Bea as a grown-up.

His character appears in the flashback scenes of the series but he posted a photo of him with Alden on his Facebook account.

For sure, Marco has a lot of new fans and followers on his social media account. On his Instagram account, his female fans say he is good-looking and is boyfriend material. They say they watch “Start-Up PH” because of Marco who is now a GMA Network contract star.
