From the ‘Gameboys’ universe comes ‘PaThirsty’
Director Ivan Andrew Payawal shares writing credits with screenwriter Ash Malanum for the hilariously funny script of “PaThirsty,” a Vivamax original which is now streaming.
Adrianna So and Kych Minemoto were the first to be cast since they were coming from their characters Pearl and Achilles who were introduced in the series “Gameboys.”
“When we were writing the script, we had Alex Diaz in mind for the role of Ali. He was our choice. The role fits him. When we finished writing the script, we contacted Alex’s management and asked him to read for the part. We remember, after he read, everyone in the room said he has the part,” Direk Ivan recalled.
Even the other cast members read for their parts – Kate Alejandrino, Chad Kinis and Bob Jbelie.
From the same universe of the hit BL franchise “Gameboys”, Pearl (Adrianna So) and Achilles (Kych Minemoto) are besties who are both suffering from the heartache of their failed relationships.
While Achilles clings to alcohol and uses social media to vent out his feelings, Pearl tries her best to ignore the pain and enjoys herself as she fools around and have so-called “sexcapades.”
Wanting her best friend to be happy after his social media meltdowns, Pearl plays cupid and tries to find the perfect dream guy for Achilles. And so, they meet Ali (Alex Diaz), a handsome young man with a perfectly toned body who is also rich and is an heir to his father’s business empire.
Achilles and Ali immediately click, and Pearl pats herself on the back as she becomes the matchmaker for what looked like a perfectly happy ending for her best friend. But things start to get a little complicated when Pearl realizes that she is also catching feelings for Ali.
As the three of them find themselves in an untangled web and an unfortunate love triangle, who will end up with Ali? Will it be “friendship over” for Pearl and Achilles? Join this crazy trio as they figure out the value of love and relationships through a wild and chaotic adventure.
From the director of “Gameboys” comes another story that will give you a glimpse of modern love. It will not only tickle your funny bone but will also tickle your fancy.
Direk Ivan is very grateful for his talented cast. “I always say that ‘PaThirsty’ is not the favorite movie from all the movies that I have done. It was a tough shoot. It’s one of the hardest movies I have done. But I feel we were connected when we were doing the shoot and we understand the cast bonded so well,” he said.
“Sometimes you think you have a good cast but when you come to the set, you wouldn’t know if they will have chemistry. But all of my actors are very generous and giving. And they worked well together. I am thankful they were the actors I chose for this movie.”

Horror film project “Posthouse”, directed by Nikolas Red and produced by Iana Bernardez, bagged the Discover of Asia Award and the VIPO Award at the Network of Asian Fantastic Films (NAFF) 2022 Awarding Night last July 12, held as part of the festivities of Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) 2022 in South Korea.
Helmed by the Filipino production company Epicmedia, the film project won the critical recognition of the jury that awarded them two film fundings amounting to roughly 15,000 USD. The Discover of Asia Award is granted to a newcomer to the Asian genre film scene, while the VIPO Award is given to the best project by the festival’s premiere sponsor and partner, Visual Industry Promotion Organization (VIPO), a Japanese non-government organization that supports the creative industry.
After going through preliminary screenings and final meetings with the three-member jury of experts, Red’s creative work was selected by the jury. According to them, the film “represents a new generation of filmmakers keeping the [Philippines horror] flame alive and paying homage to their cinematic predecessors, while making innovative and unique movies, mostly aimed at a raving young audience.”
This much-awaited horror film project tells the story of a worker in a post-production facility which is believed to be haunted. In a race against time, the man must complete a puzzle of disturbing images in order to save his daughter from a sinister entity.
The “Posthouse” team’s participation at NAFF 2022 was supported by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) through its International Film Studies Assistance Program (IFSAP).
FDCP Chairperson and CEO Liza Diño exclaims, “Being part of Nikolas Red’s ‘Posthouse’ journey has been a delight. Slowly but surely, the project is gaining the attention it deserves and we are proud to have been able to support the project. This is our validation that Filipino horror and thriller genre films have a fighting chance in competing globally.”
