Gabby Concepcion rules out falling for much younger girl

CEBU, Philippines — A few weeks in and GMA-7’s newest teleserye “Love You Two” proves that Gabby Concepcion is as dashing as ever. The veteran actor stars alongside Kapuso Ultimate Star Jennylyn Mercado for the first time in the heart-warming romantic comedy.

In the series, Gabby portrays Jake, a charming businessman and hotel owner who remains debonair in his 40s. Recently in Cebu with co-stars Jennylyn and Clint Bondad, Gabby shared why he said yes to the project.

The 54-year-old said it had something to do with the script, which gave him a certain excitement. He likened the experience with the rewarding feeling you get when you want to splurge and find something on the shelf that sparks the thrill.

“I read the script, and I read it again, and I read I again. Para ma absorb... I asked a friend how they do it. I have people who have the same situation... Pero ang ganda ng storya,” said Gabby, adding that it was a bonus to be able to work with Jennylyn.

Gabby said he hasn’t found himself in a similar situation with his character where someone much younger is attracted to him and that it is not likely for him to involve himself with someone younger.

“Wala akong karanasan na ganun. Hirap na hirap ako sa role... Alam ko naman na hindi pwede. We all have limitations and boundaries,” he said.

Described as a joy to work with by his co-stars, Gabby is said to be an accommodating colleague who goes out of his way to make jokes and make everyone feel comfortable on set. The actor, still a sought-after leading man, shares that he has learned a lot from his co-stars.

“Kissing scene…Hirap na hirap talaga ako. Iba ang halik ng millennial. Hindi ko alam kung tama ang ginagawa ko,” Gabby joked about the challenges he faces when it comes to playing Jake.

“Nabarkada ko na sila. Ang dami kong natutunan sa kanila. Iba kasi millennial sila. Yung style nila iba sa atin,” said Gabby, who also has a movie currently in cinemas opposite Jodi Sta. Maria in “Man and Wife.”

Directed by Irene Villamor, “Love You Two” also stars Solenn Heussaff, Shaira Diaz, Sheena Halili, Jerald Napoles, Kiray Celis, Nar Cabico, Yasser Marta and Michelle Dee and currently airs on the GMA Telebabad primetime block.
