Top Cebuano personalities Lita De La Rosa (Bowler par excellence)
CEBU, Philippines — With her shining accomplishments, this decorated Cebuana pinbuster has largely contributed in putting the Philippines in the world map of bowling.
A four-time world champion, Lita de la Rosa first shot to fame when she won the Bowling World Cup in Bogota, Colombia, in 1978.
De la Rosa gained distinction as one of the only two women who have won the AMF Bowling World Cup and the FIQ/WTBA Masters in successive years. The other is Annette Hagre Johansson of Sweden (1986 AMF Bowling World Cup, 1987 FIQ/WTBA Masters).
De la Rosa completed the historic feat in 1979 before her proud countrymen when she bagged gold medal in women single event as well as the masters title in the IX Fédération Internationale des Quilleurs World Championship in Manila. It was a golden treble for De la Rosa as she also grabbed gold in the women doubles together with Bong Coo.
Still in 1979 during the 5th FIQ Asian Zone Championships at the Ploenshit Bowling Center in Bangkok, Thailand, De la Rosa joined forces with Nellie Castillo to clinch the women doubles gold medal.
In the 1983 World Championship, De la Rosa, Bong Coo and Arianne Cerdeña shared the silver medal with the United States team.
De la Rosa also made her mark as one of the best duckpin bowlers of the Philippines, winning silver medal at the World Cup of Duckpin.
To immortalize her greatness, De la Rosa was inducted into the WBW International Bowling Hall of Fame in 2000. She was formally enshrined in the prestigious Philippine Sports Hall of Fame on October 12, 2018.
