‘My 40 Years, Sharon’ touted as 2018’s grandest musical event
In just a few days, Megastar Sharon Cuneta’s 40th anniversary concert will be staged at the Araneta Coliseum.
According to someone involved in the production, the concert will surely become memorable not only for the fans of Sharon (some of whom saved money just to buy tickets), but for Sharon as well.
It is considered a milestone if an artist reaches 40 years in the entertainment industry. In this day and age of short-lived careers (meaning lacking in longevity), a star of Sharon’s magnitude is already hard to come by. To last this long in showbiz is a rare feat.
With the way the TV networks churn out stars via reality shows and what have you, it is easy to become a star. But to sustain a star’s popularity is another matter. So it’s indeed a cause for celebration when a performer celebrates 40 years in the business.
While Sharon may not exactly be at the peak of her career now, she still commands respect from her fans and loyal followers. Her last movie with Robin Padilla (“Unexpectedly Yours”), which also featured the tandem of Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto, was among the top moneymakers of Star Cinema Productions last year. She is set to do her reunion movie with Richard Gomez also under Star Cinema.
“My 40 Years, Sharon” is a much-awaited, grand musical and industry event. Louie Ocampo, Mel Villena and Ryan Cayabyab are the musical directors.
Among the featured guest performers in the concert are Zsa Zsa Padilla, Kuh Ledesma, Regine Velasquez, Basil Valdez, Martin Nievera and Gary Valenciano.
“My 40 Years, Sharon” is presented by San Miguel Corporation, in cooperation with Petron, Magnolia Chicken 3-Way, Philippine Airlines, McDonalds and The Aivee Group, together with media partners The Philippine Star, Business World, People’s Journal and People’s Tonight, and supported by Fernando’s Bakery and Leylam Philippines.

We are happy for John “Sweet” Lapus who is finally realizing his dream of becoming a director.
He is making his directorial debut in Cinema One Originals via his first full-length script titled “#PangMMK” that stars Nikki Valdez, Neil Coleta and Zeppi Borromeo.
It was right timing on Sweet’s part who took a director’s workshop under Carlos Siguion-Reyna. He also joined the Scriptwriting Workshop under Ricky Lee where he is part of Batch 19.
Sweet concedes that he is nervous since this is the first time he is directing a movie and he didn’t expect that his entry in Cinema One Originals will be accepted. But he is excited to face the challenge.
“Malay natin, baka magkaroon ako ng bagong career bilang director pero di ko naman kalilimutan ang acting and hosting kasi dito naman ako unang nakilala at minahal ng mga tao,” said Sweet.
Cinema One Originals will run from Oct. 12-21.

Dominic Roco would rather audition for a role rather than accept a project that had been pre-assigned for him, like say, for a teleserye.
He finds fulfillment trying out for a role than being handpicked. “I like the idea of having to audition for a good role,” said Dominic who plays Glaiza de Castro’s husband in the award-winning Cinemalaya film “Liway.”
He was handpicked by direk Kip Oebanda in this film about Martial Law which chronicles Direk Kip’s experience as a child. His mom was a rebel who was caught and gave birth to Kip inside a detention camp.
Dominic is happy with his role in “Liway,” which is his fourth film project with Glaiza. “This is Glaiza’s best performance in the films that we did together,” said the other half of the famed Roco twins.
“I am very comfortable working with Glaiza and if it seemed that we did our roles well as husband and wife, it’s because we already have chemistry,” the actor said.
When asked why the public should watch “Liway,” Dominic said we ought to so as not to forget this chapter in our country’s history. “It’s an eye-opener for everybody.”
“Liway,” the highest grossing film in the history of Cinemalaya, will have a regular run in cinemas on Oct. 10.
