Miss Korea Philippines 2018 candidates unveiled
With over a hundred thousand Koreans residing and visiting the Philippines, which is also known for beauty pageants and Hallyu fans, the country will host the Miss Korea Regional Preliminaries (Miss Korea Philippines), a franchise of the prestigious Miss Korea, for the second time.
It is a non-profit nationwide beauty contest in the Philippines that selects Koreans residing in the country to represent the Philippines and compete in the 62nd Miss Korea Main Pageant in Seoul, South Korea. The event aims to nourish the blooming relationship between South Korea and the Philippines, as well as promote the rich and attractive cultures of both countries.
The Miss Korea Pageant has served as a gateway to be able to show the beauty of the Korean women in the midst of the country’s recovery after the Korean War in May 1957. For over 62 years, the Miss Korea Pageant has been a platform for talented and intelligent women from the different regions in South Korea and around the world to represent what they stand for and to show what truly makes a Korean woman.
Not only will the pageant showcase Korean beauty but it will also exhibit the charisma of the lovely candidates. Miss Korea (Philippines) is more than just uncovering the ideal Korean beauty, but to also open and develop the world to ideas and changes tendered by brilliant brains and sincere hearts.
Together with her advocacy, the newly crowned Miss Korea (Philippines) will be able to help cultivate the Philippines’ norms with South Korea contemporary yet traditional culture like last year’s crowned Miss Korea Philippines, Lee Hanna, who represented the Philippines and won first runner-up in the Miss Korea main pageant and represented Korea in Miss Earth 2017.
The 2018 Miss Korea-Philippines is happening on May 8 at the Grand Ballroom of City of Dreams Manila. It is co-presented by City of Dreams Manila and organized by ShowBT Philippines.
The 2018 Miss Korea (Philippines) official candidates are:
#1 – Bhang Selina, 21, a part-time junior graphic designer, model and student from De La Salle College of Saint Benilde. Her hobbies are film photography, watching movies, and reading books.
#2 – Jung Youra, 22, a student of PATTS College of Aeroneutics. Her hobbies are listening to music and playing with puppies.
#3 – Cho Hye Jeong, 23, a student from Miriam College, who loves listening to music, reading books and watching movies.
#4 – Park Yun Kyung, 21, a student from San Beda College. Her hobbies are swimming, doing clay craft and listening to music.
#5 – Park Se Eun, 17, a student who loves exercising and writing.
#6 – Kwon Soo Jong, 23, works as an interpreter. She loves watching movies and scuba diving.
# 7 – Kuk Son Yong, 25, a TV personality from ABS-CBN. She loves dancing, singing Filipino songs, playing the violin, and watching documentaries.
#8 – Kwon Ji Hye, a student, an intern at a law firm, and an English teacher. She comes from De La Salle University. Her hobbies are reading history novels, traveling, playing the cello and dancing the ballet.
In the open forum that followed the presentation of candidates on Saturday, April 28, the eight young ladies proved themselves to be witty and knowledgeable on current events, most especially the historic signing of agreement between the two leaders of North and South Korea.
While they are of mix parentage, all of them said they are proud of being Koreans and being Filipinos as well. They said that have learned a lot about the Pinoy culture while also embracing their Korean roots
All of the girls are intelligent and even if some of them are not that fluent in English, still they were able to express their thoughts well.
