Kiwipinoy actor fulfills dream to work with Lea Salonga

CEBU, Philippines - The year 2016 is definitely a lucky year for half-Kiwi, half-Filipino singer-actor Laurence Mossman.

He has been blessed with a regular show at the Resorts World Manila for almost a year already, a cameo role as Mr. Mossman in the top-rating “Dolce Amore” series, special appearances in the movies “Die Beautiful” (which gave Paolo Ballesteros his first Best Actor trophy) and “Bakit Lahat ng Gwapo May Boyfriend,” and numerous provincial shows as an endorser for Psalmstre New Placenta for Men.

Currently, the 20-something Kiwipino has earned a role in the most awarded and acclaimed musical of 2015, “Fun Home,” which topbills Lea Salonga, Cris Villonco and Eric Kunze.

Laurence said that being part of the musical is the best experience he’s had as a singer.

“Everyone else dreams to work with Philippine pride and Broadway legend Lea Salonga. I’m so lucky to have passed the audition. Sobrang blessed ko talaga with this opportunity. Kaya I really have to give my all,” the heartthrob said.

In one of their rehearsals, Laurence got the chance to interview the Pinay Broadway queen, which he uploaded on his Facebook account. In the interview, he asked her to give an advice to young New Zealand singers. Without hesitation, Lea encouraged and motivated these children to continue practicing and putting music in their hearts.

His role in “Fun Home” may not be that big, but Laurence is still very thankful because he believes that this might open more opportunities for him. He noted that hundreds went through the tedious audition process, so being chosen for the role means a lot to him.

Last month, Laurence made a video of him giving tips to foreign tourists on how they can ensure a worthwhile and meaningful stay in the country. He used his public speaking skills to contribute to the thriving Philippine tourism industry. He voluntarily did this video, which is available on Youtube, out of his love for the country.

Laurence will also be working hand in hand with Mister World 2016 first runner-up Fernando Alvarez of Puerto Rico in a series of projects, including the Free Hugs campaign, which will be brought to different provinces and cities in the country as part of their duties as Creworks Asia talents. In January, they are expected to grace the float of Psalmstre during the Sinulog grand parade.
