Campus beauties lead Green Day celebration

CEBU, Philippines - The semifinalists of the inter-school teen pageant Mister and Miss South Town Centre 2016 completed the challenges in line with the Green Day celebration last October 8. The event is the mall’s way of sending its message to the public that, more than ever, now is the time to start taking care of the environment.

Seventeen lovely ladies and gorgeous gentlemen coming from different high schools, colleges and universities in Cebu stood together for the love of Mother Earth and competed in two challenges: the on-the-spot tagline-making contest and eco-bag promotion challenge.

The semifinalists were asked to individually make a tagline for South Town Centre, which focused on the unique characteristics of the mall and its serious campaign in protecting the environment.

In the Eco-Bag Promotion challenge, the candidates were grouped in order to promote the advocacy of reusing, reducing, and recycling. Five groups were identified, which included Nature Savers group with Nhel Albon (University of Cebu – METC), Pearl John Pepito (Informatics College - Consolacion) and Jocelyn Kathyrene Kaye Rollins (University of San Jose Recoletos) as members.

The Eco-Friendly group was composed of Samrullah Nazir (South Western University), James Clyde Balatayo (San Isidro Parish School – Talamban), and Rachelle Anne Tingal (University of San Jose - Recoletos).

 Rob Julianne Gascon (Our Lady of the Pillar Academy – Sibonga), Althea Mae Uy (Abellana National School), Jean Ivy Fuentes (Cebu Eastern College) and Jewel Alexei Image (University of Cebu –Main) made up the Earth Warriors group.

 Members of the Green Revolution group were Jason Jose Acha (Cebu Easter College), Amanda Basnillo (University of Southern Philippines – Foundation) and Arbey Jamili (Cebu Institute of Technology - University).

 The Give Chance group had Kiona Stroobants (Royal Oaks International Academy –Mandaue), Shermaine Castanares (Divino Amore Academy –Talisay), Odelio Duja (Cebu Institute of Technology - University), and Johnritch Bejasa (University of Cebu – Main).

 Results of the Green Day challenges will be announced during the semifinal competition this Sunday (October 16) together with the announcement of the Top 8 pairs of finalists. The score from these challenges constitutes 10 percent of the total semifinal score.

Everyone is also invited to watch the talent competition that will take place on Saturday (October 15) at the mall’s activity area. (FREEMAN)
