CEBU, Philippines – Sarah Jessica Parker has earned her stripes in Hollywood. The “Sex and the City” star graces the October issue of Harper’s Bazaar in a wardrobe tailored to a fashion legend.
The interview featured within the magazine reveals a reflective side to the storied Hollywood legend as she discusses social media’s effect on her privacy, her surprisingly normal life in New York City, and even her thoughts on her now infamous Met Gala headdress—and all those memes it inspired.
“My son was like, ‘Mom, you’re a meme.’ I didn’t know what a meme was!” Parker explained about the elaborate and highly-photographed headdress she wore to the Met Gala in May. “I never got far enough from the headpiece to get that it would be seen as flames.”
Despite her intricate fashion sense and high-profile film and television career, the 50-year-old Ohio native still loves to ride the subway in New York City.
“I love the city. I love everything it has to offer. I think that my children are so lucky to be raised here,” Parker gushed. “I love the subway, I love hailing a cab, I love traffic and people and all of the possibilities. I believe in all of that still.”
While her private life seems rather low-key, Parker’s latest role as a fashion designer has required her to manage even more public attention, especially in the realm of social media. The complex cover girl has been recognized for her unique social media style, using Twitter and Instagram to promote her brand and connect with her customers on such a personal level that we feel like we could pick her up and go out for a cosmopolitan. Still, the degree of publicity Parker faces every day is shocking to her.
“My husband [Matthew Broderick] and I are genuinely surprised that we feel more public now than we have ever felt. It’s social media. Of course, when you work in TV or film, there is a familiarity, so you reconcile that. But the show has been off the air a long time now. You are not ever alone. You are not ever, ever, ever, ever alone.”
