CEBU, Philippines – Two Filipino acts that earned four yes votes from Simon Cowell, Rita Ora, Nick Grimshaw and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini again impressed the “X-Factor UK” judges during the Boot Camp phase of the popular talent search series and advanced to the next round of the competition.
The all-Pinay sister act 4th Power joined forces with “housewife and mum” Neneth Lyons and fellow contestants Louisa Johnson, Jasmine Leigh Morris, Andre Batchelor and Sherlyn Hamilton Shaw in bringing the house down with an electrifying performance of “Proud Mary,” originally a hit for the group Creedence Clearwater Revival.
The group’s performance was more of a homage to Tina Turner, who recorded her own soulful hit version of the song in 1970 together with then husband, Ike Turner.
Prior to the performance, a short clip was shown of the rehearsals. Neneth said that she was there “to compete” while the 4th Power composed of Mylene, Celina, Irene and Almira Cercado declared that this was going to be “the performance of a lifetime.”
Despite being a group effort, Neneth and 4th Power claimed their own highlight moments as all four judges, including the usually hard-to-please Cowell, found themselves smiling in awe of the performance.
And even though all performers were collectively known as Group 13, the usually unlucky number did not jinx their moment as all of them moved on to the next round of competitions, the Six Chair Challenge.
