CEBU, Philippines - The 1st ASEAN Festival of Guitar Culture Exchange is being held in Cebu City from December 4-6 with the theme “The ASEANization of the Guitar.”
With the ASEAN Economic Integration being at the forefront of major discourses in the region, the event explores the role of classical guitar music in the aesthetic exchange within and beyond the ASEAN.
While the guitar originated in Europe, it has become well-loved among ASEAN cultures and has been an important instrument in the enrichment of local musical traditions as well as an agent of artistic integration through a shared passion for classical guitar music.
Among the activities in store for participants are classical guitar masterclass and workshop, ABRSM Exams coaching, concert, lecture, open forum, and an open concert at Fuente Osmeña.
The event features prominent ASEAN guitar artists Dr. Paul Cesarczyk, Chair of Guitar Studies at the Mahidol University in Thailand; Simon Cheong, President of the Guitar Festivals Association of Malaysia; and Gonzalo Noel Misa, PhD in Guitar candidate at the PWU in Manila.
The three guest artists will not only perform beautiful classical guitar music individually but will also give instruction on guitar performance.
