CEBU, Philippines – The bodies of Miss World Honduras 2014, Maria Jose Alvarado, 19, and her sister Sofia Trinidad Hernandez, 24, were found on Wednesday by a river located in a mountain in La Arada, in Santa Barbara.

According to La Prensa Honduras, Leando Osorio, Chief of Police in charge of the investigation, confirmed one hundred percent that the bodies are those of the missing women.

Osorio revealed that Plutarco Ruiz, the boyfriend of Sofia Trinidad, is the author of the crime; Ruiz killed the women the same night of the abduction.

Investigators say Alvarado and Trinidad were last seen getting into a vehicle after attending a birthday party near their hometown of Santa Barbara, Honduras last Thursday. Their family reported their disappearance to police Saturday.

Both Ruiz and his accomplice Aris Maldonado were captured and arrested yesterday in Santa Barbara.

A weapon was found in their possession, which could be the one used for the crime.

Alvarado beat out 18 contestants and obtained the Miss Honduras crown in April. She was expected to arrive in London yesterday and join contestants from more than 120 countries. They would then partake in early rounds of the Miss World Pageant before the final round is held December 14.

According to her official profile, Alvarado has aspirations of a career in government, specifically as a diplomat for her country. In her spare time, she enjoys playing volleyball, football and performing the Punta Dance. The beauty queen is also part of a modeling reality show on Honduran television.

Honduras, an impoverished Central American country with eight million people, is statistically the most violent nation in the world.
