CEBU, Philippines - GMA Artist Center star Jackie Rice could’ve just shied away from doing a daring role that goes far beyond the confines of her previous portrayals, but the StarStruck Ultimate Female Survivor had a lot of reasons why she had to muster up and commit to the movie “Kamkam” (Greed).
“Sa galing ng direktor, ganda ng istorya, at sa husay ng cast, parang wala akong karapatang tanggihan ang project na ‘to,” Jackie muses.
“Kamkam” is a film that depicts the effects of corruption manned by a patriarchal system. In the movie, Jackie is the third wife of an amoral thug who lords over a poverty-stricken community.
The storyline required Jackie to engage in steamy love scenes which proved to be challenging for the actress. The Kapuso star felt like she had to gauge herself – to see what she can do —and how far she can go as an actress.
For Jackie, her latest silver screen effort proved to be a measuring stick. “It was something different. Mas nakilala ko ang sarili ko, may mga nagawa ako for the first time,” shares Jackie.
Jackie also shares that she desired to be a part of “Kamkam” because of the critically-acclaimed director Joel Lamangan. It has always been her dream to do a project under the helm of director Joel.
“Masaya ako at natupad na ang pangarap ko. Ang dami kong natutunan kay Direk Joel. Maraming nakapansin na iba ang atake o approach ko rito,” says Jackie.
“Binigay ko talaga ang buong puso ko sa movie na ‘to. Nandoon din ‘yung buong tiwala ko kay Direk at sa mga eksena,” Jackie adds.
All of Jackie’s efforts were deservingly lauded by no less than Direk Joel himself. It’s as if Jackie earned a badge after being dubbed by the renowned director as “his new discovery.”
“Kamkam” is now showing in select theaters nationwide. (FREEMAN)
