CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Arts Foundation, Inc. (CAFI) will once again showcase original Cebuano music and compositions in hosting the 35th Cebu Pop Music Festival. Cebu Pop, a songwriting competition established in January 1981, has opened opportunities for Cebuano music enthusiasts.
Three musical genres/categories – Ballad and Pop Ballad, RnB and Rock – will be the songfest classification for the 35th edition. One winner will be declared in every category, each receiving the amount of P100,000.
The 35th Cebu Pop Music Festival is open to all Filipino songwriters residing in Cebu or migrants elsewhere in the country or abroad.
Lawyer Eduardo R. Gullas, CAFI Chairman, said that the categorization of the compositions is to give chance to the composers whose specialization lies in any of the three genres. The former congressman added that today’s music has evolved into other forms, and their musical styles have become more interesting and exciting.
Over the years, the winners of the Cebu Pop Music Festival have won national acclaim and recognition such as Chad Borja, Sheryn Regis, Anna Fegi, Raki Vega and Vina Morales.
The grand finals night of the 35th Cebu Pop will be on January 16, 2015. Each of the musical genres will have four finalists and the non-winners will each receive P20,000.
CAFI is now accepting entries for the 35th Cebu Pop Music Festival. Entry forms, together with the festival rules and guidelines are available at the UV Alumni Office, University of the Visayas, Colon Street, Cebu City.
All entries must be submitted to the office of the Cebu Arts Foundation, Inc, 2nd Floor, UV Alumni Office, Sanciangko Street, Cebu City. The deadline for submission is on July 31, 2014 at 5 p.m.
