Carla Abellana serves up scares in ‘Third Eye’

Carla Abellana is nominated in the forthcoming fifth Golden Screen TV Awards for the ground-breaking TV drama “My Husband’s Lover.” Aside from Carla, also nominated for their performances are Tom Rodriguez who played her husband and Dennis Trillo who played Tom’s lover.

“I already learned about my nomination and I am thankful to Enpress, Inc, and the Golden Screen TV Awards for recognizing our efforts,” said Carla at the presscon of her latest movie “Third Eye” held Monday at the Imperial Palace Suites. She knows she will be up against Marian Rivera who is nominated for “Temptation of Wife,” and she wishes her luck, same with the other nominees.

Carla said she and boyfriend Geoff Eigenmann didn’t have the chance to celebrate Valentine’s Day, but says she’s not bitter about it. “Sanay na ako na hindi talaga kami nakakapag-celebrate ng Valentine’s because we are both busy. Kahit post-Valentine celebration nga minsan ay wala rin kami, but it’s just fine with me because it’s been like that since we became an item.”

The press kidded Carla that her love story with Geoff seems to lack romance but she doesn’t mind. What matters, according to her, is how they feel towards each other. They also don’t give each other fancy or expensive gifts just to mark any occasion. “But we make the most out of it when we have time to spend together,” she said.

“Third Eye” is Carla’s second horror assignment. She was featured in an episode of “Shake, Rattle and Roll” for which she won an acting citation from the Young Critics Circle. She admits loving horror movies and she won’t pass on a chance to watch a good horror film.

“Third Eye” tells the story of a girl named Mylene (Carla) who goes through a traumatic childhood because of the so-called “third eye.” Her grandmother (Boots Anson Roa) pities her, that she decides to have the “third eye” closed. But she warns her that it can reopen especially when her will is weak.

“I did an episode for ‘Shake, Rattle & Roll’ and I was scared. But I didn’t expect that I will get nervous with the scenes that I will do here in ‘Third Eye.’ We have an eerie feeling with regards to the location and my screams were for real. I was not acting them out.”

“Third Eye” also stars Ejay Falcon, Denise Laurel, Camille Prats and Alex Vincent Medina. The movie is written and directed by Aloy Adlawan for Regal Films. It opens on Feb. 26.

Max Collins waited for eight months before she finally got a new acting assignment via the afternoon drama “Innamorata.” Her last soap was the primetime drama “Pahiram ng Sandali” which was directed by Maryo J. Delos Reyes and co-starred her with Lorna Tolentino, Christopher de Leon and Dingdong Dantes.

But despite the long wait for a new acting series, Max is very grateful to GMA-7 for the trust and confidence. “Innamorata” is her first big solo project since she started her acting career and she admits feeling the pressure because she knows it’s a make or break bid for her.

While waiting for “Innamorata,” Max kept herself busy appearing in “Bubble Gang” where she tried her hand in comedy. And she enjoyed her stint in the top-rating and long-running gag show of the Kapuso network. She didn’t reckon she can be good at comedy but considers it a good experience having dabbled in it. She was also able to do the indie film “Bamboo Flowers” for which she received good reviews for her performance.

Wendell Ramos hasn’t done a movie for quite a while that’s why when we had a chance to talk to him at the pocket presscon for PPL Talents held on Sunday, we reminded Wendell that he should be doing movies. One of his memorable film projects was “Sabel” for which he won the Urian Best Supporting Actor award.

He had mentioned to his manager Perry Lansigan of his desire to do a movie project. In fact, he is looking into the possibility of producing an indie film as long as there is a good script. When Wendell learned that TV5 is producing made-for-TV-movies, all the more he became excited to do a film. He has been told though that TV5 is preparing a drama project for him.

He is a contract star of TV5 where he has two shows – “Tropa Mo Ako Unli” and the soon-to-be-shown “Confessions of a Torpe” where he is reunited with good friend Ogie Alcasid. Said show will replace “Madam Chairman.”

We don’t need to watch “Celebrity Bluff” a hundred times just to convince us that Eugene Domingo and Jose Manalo have chemistry that radiates onscreen.

The tandem of Uge and Jose works very well in this award-winning game show of GMA-7. The few times that we were able to watch the program was enough to convince us that the partnership of Uge and Jose spells wonders. One reason why “Celebrity Bluff” is very entertaining, not only informative, is because of the banter of Uge and Jose. The audience likes their chemistry.

Their chemistry is so good that we believe it is high time for Uge and Jose to do a comedy film together. We hope a producer would gamble on a film that would showcase the comic expertise of Uge and Jose.
