CEBU, Philippines - Ten professional and semi-professional dancers have banded together to form the Metropolitan Ballet Theatre--a chamber dance company--young, dedicated, experienced dancers who have undergone intensive training in both classical and contemporary dance.
A first, and the only active dance company in the region, it aims to put Cebu City on the dance map, especially now that Cebu City has been designated "ASEAN City of Culture".
With Fe Sala Villarica as Artistic Consultant, and Benjie Diola as Technical Consultant and Director, MBT has prepared a full calendar of events for the next three years, opening with the show DIVERTISSEMENTS, sponsored by the Arts Council of Cebu in partnership with Marco Polo Plaza Hotel, and in association with the Philippine Pediatric Society, scheduled for July 19, 8:15 pm at the Grand Ballroom of the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel.
Featuring a diverse program consisting of one-act ballets, classical excerpts, and original, contemporary works, the show aims to entertain and elevate audiences, to counterbalance the banal and trite shows available nowadays.
The Company has been rehearsing in Mango Square through the courtesy of Mango Square Dance Studio.
