Reporter’s Notebook celebrates 8th anniversary on the air, presents “Sektor”, an eight-part election series

CEBU, Philippines - GMA’s award-winning investigative news magazine program, Reporter’s Notebook, becomes the first Public Affairs program to launch election-related special reports as it premieres “Sektor”, an eight-part series this October in celebration of its eighth anniversary.

From October 2012 until May 2013, “Sektor” will air in-depth special reports once-a-month that will investigate issues affecting the eight primary sectors with the highest poverty incidence as determined annually by the government.

Latest study conducted by the National Statistical Coordination Board show that these sectors include, in order of poverty incidence: Fishermen, farmers, children, self-employed/unpaid family workers, women, youth, migrant and formal sector and senior citizens.

Apart from simply presenting their situation, each report will deliver an assessment of past programs and current policies employed by the current administration. It will also delve into the sufficiency of sectoral representation in the government in terms of addressing the concerns of the marginalized and initiate reforms that could address the festering social inequities in the status quo.

The special series is a reaffirmation of Reporter’s Notebook’s continuing advocacy to deliver analyses and information on issues that matter in relation to the 2013 elections.

In 2007, Reporter’s Notebook launched an election series which tackled various important issues from vote buying, campaign expenses and contributions, election hotspots, election-related violence to political dynasties, celebrities in politics and even the so-called nuisance candidates.

In 2010, Reporter’s Notebook aired its Vice Presidentiables Series, snagging interviews of all those who ran for Vice President.

Tonight, join Jiggy Manicad and Maki Pulido as they journey to Zamboanga City, Surigao del Norte and to Jolo, Sulu to probe the real struggles faced by the fisherfolk, the Philippines’ poorest sector.

Don’t miss “Sektor: Mangingisda, Lambat ng Kahirapan”, the first of Reporter’s Notebook’s eight-part anniversary special beginning tonight after Saksi on GMA-7. (FREEMAN)
