30 freelancers from Central Visayas to undergo mentorship

CEBU, Philippines —  Thirty online freelancers from all over Central Visayas will start their nine-week business mentorship session from August to October 2021.

This was announced by Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-7) regional director  Ma. Elena Arbon.

The free program covers nine modules-- Entrepreneurial Mind-setting and Values Formation, Overview of the Market, Developing the Business, Finance and Operations Management, People Management, Contract Management,  Client Management, Legalizing your Business, Business Model Canvass and One on one mentoring.

“We aim to help these online freelancers develop their entrepreneurial capacity and expand their job opportunities,” said Arbon.

Arbon added that this mentorship intervention will pave the way for gentler learning curve, more success stories and more jobs to bolster the economy.

According to entrepreneur Mike Cubos, who also started as freelancer, said that the income potential in online freelancing is unlimited only if these freelancers turn to become entrepreneurs.

A online freelancer earns about P30,000 per month.

If this were to be pursued seriously, this would enable freelancers to fetch potential earnings of at least P200,000 per month.

“Just imagine the jobs and revenues this will create if we are to help our online freelancers become business owners,” Cubos said.

According to a study by the University of the Philippines School of Labor and Industrial Relations, the Philippines ranked third in terms of online freelancing in the world, next only to the United States and India.

Last week, the DTI-7 and the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) officially launched the Digital Services Entrepreneurs Advancement Mentoring (DREAM) program, a mentorship concept that will help tech-savvy individuals land freelancing jobs from clients around the world.

This mentorship program also aims to develop new breed of entrepreneurs and businesses that are viable, digital and resilient business ventures.
