Gaisano Bros kicks off high-end venture

CEBU, Philippines —  Gaisano Brothers Merchandising Inc., opened its first high-end supermarket chain, amid uncertainties of pandemic.

The company, which operates the Gaisano Country Mall, Gaisano Main, as well as department stores in Balamban, Bogo, Moalboal, among others, plans to expand its “Market Square” supermarket brand, the pilot outlet located in StreetScape lifestyle destination at Maria Luisa Road in Banilad.

According to Alyssa Jan Gaisano, the company’s chief operating officer (COO), the opening of the posh Market Square kicks off the company’s exploration into the higher-end market.

Although at this time, there is no definite plans yet, while the economy is still undergoing repair due to the effects of COVID-19.

Its flagship department store and supermarket Gaisano Main has been in operation for years, Gaisano Country Mall in Banilad is also on its 27th year, so far the company has been successful in attracting the mainstream market and has built its strong brand over the years.

Post pandemic, Gaisano Bros explores into another segment, focusing into the more

essential offerings—supermarket.

The success of the StreetScape Market Place will define the company’s full-blown venture into upscale supermarket category, Gaisano added.

Gaisano Bros, led by siblings Alex and Rosemary Gaisano, is also planning to open more department stores and supermarket branches outside of Cebu in the next few years.
