Visayan Electric to power up unserved sitios by 2020

CEBU, Philippines — Visayan Electric (formerly VECO) targets to energize all unserved sitios in its franchise area by the end of 2020.

This is the commitment made by Visayan Electric president Jaime Jose Aboitiz said during the recent media appreciation party hosted by Aboitiz Group.

According to Aboitiz, Visayan Electric’s electrification program, which is aligned with the Energy Department’s goal of total electrification by 2022, is a bit way ahead and is now 42 percent completed.

Aboitiz, who is also the upcoming chief operating officer (COO) of Aboitiz Power, added that Visayan Electric has upgraded and interconnected more substations, installing additional capacity and strengthening the reliability of its network to support growing demand.

Also, Aboitiz reported that the company is now on its Phase 3 in its Underground Distribution System along Sinulog route covering Imus Avenue, from Sikatuna to General Maxilom, is almost done.

“We will continue to build underground systems in the City,” Aboitiz said.

VECO is now serving a total of 447,428.00 consumers as of October this year. It is the second largest electric utility in the Philippines, serves the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Talisay and Naga and the municipalities of Liloan, Consolacion, Minglanillla and San Fernando.
