Big Bad Wolf returns with over 1M books
CEBU, Philippines — Over a million new book titles will be made available to Cebuanos on the second book-sale return of Malaysian mobile bookshop “Big Bad Wolf.”
This was announced yesterday by Big Bad Wolf Books founder Jacqueline Ng in a press conference.
The world’s biggest booksale, which primarily advocates the culture of reading and English literacy is encouraged by the positive response of Cebuano “bookworms” during its first entry to Cebu last year with over 200 thousand recorded to have visited the two-week Cebu visit.
This year, Ng announced that aside from over a million new book titles, the mobile bookshop will also bring in eight more titles for its AR (Augmented Reality) magical book collections that will encourage reading for the digitally-influenced children.
Ng, who started her small bookshop in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia just to promote the culture of reading especially to non-English speaking countries like her own, now acclaimed as one of the world’s biggest book sale.
“Our first trip to Cebu last year was a big success as we had over 200,000 visitors flocking through the Book Sale choosing their gem and since then we’ve heard many request from readers over the past year to bring back the Sale here. We’re more than glad and excited to return to Cebu, and creating this platform to inspire people and empower them with knowledge,” Ng added.
Slated on August 16-26, 2019, at the IEC Convention Center (IC3), Big Bad Wolf Book sale expects to exceed their expectation in terms of sales banking on Cebuanos’ love for books and reading.
Generally, Ng noted that Filipinos are more fond of fiction books, although other genres like self-help, music are also gaining traction.
Now on its 10th year, Big Bad Wolf Books aims to encourage reading by providing high-quality English books at low-prices, with Sales visits in more countries such as Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
Meanwhile, Ng said she is also considering to open up her permanent bookshop brand “Book Access” which has 10 shops in Malaysia, for franchise. But, for now “I am still trying to learn how to franchise.”
