Vivant to build 100MW wind power plant in EV

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu-based Vivant Energy Corporation is now developing a 100-megawatt wind power plant in the Visayas.

Vivant Energy chief operating officer and executive vice president Emil M. Garcia announced that the company will soon operate a wind power plant that will be situated in Eastern Visayas.

This will augment the company’s renewable energy portfolio along with its aggressive rooftop solar power installations, among other renewable energy sourcing initiatives.

“Part of our goal of adapting to a changing world is in recognizing our need to increase our portfolio of renewable energy,” Garcia said.

He said the company believes in the sustainability and merits of renewables and this need is mirrored by the customers.

“The general public is demanding an increase in renewable sources out of concern for climate change while businesses now understand the role that renewable energy can play in their environmental compliance and corporate social responsibility,” he said.

Vivant Energy, which is the power arm of publicly-listed Vivant Corporation, targets to provide at least 10 percent of its energy portfolio sourced from RE by 2023.

The company is allocating P11 billion in capital expenditure to expand its energy portfolio.

“Vivant Energy team will explore the many opportunities coming up in an ever changing field in even greater depth,” said Vivant Corporation executive vice president Arlo A.G. Sarmiento.

Next month, the company expects to see the commissioning of Sabang Renewable Energy Corporation, a hybrid plant that combines renewable and batteries with stable thermal generation.

Garcia claimed this plant is one of the firsts of its kind in the Philippines.

“We plan on replicating hybrid format across the SPUG universe. The first of which will be in the island of Culion,” Garcia added. (FREEMAN)
