Marriott taps local partner to bring in Fairfield brand

CEBU, Philippines — Global hotel chain Marriott International partners with a Cebuano developer to open its first Fairfield Inn & Suites brand in the Philippines.

The 180-room Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott will be built in Lapu-Lapu City in partnership with AppleOne Properties Inc.(API).

Although there is an ongoing construction for another Fairfield Inn in Davao, Marriott International senior director for hotel development—Asia Pacific Steve Baek said if the Cebu property finishes first, it will be the first Fairfield brand in the Philippines.

Fairfield Inn by Marriott is an economy chain of hotels that are franchised by Marriott International.

Fairfield is Marriott’s second largest brand and a preferred business hotel worldwide.

The properties are geared towards guests requiring a place to sleep with fewer amenities, thus allowing Marriott to offer lower prices than would otherwise be possible.

The Fairfield Inn & Suites in Cebu will be part of the 7,500 square meters integrated development of API located at the Mactan Export Zone called “Mahi.”

The development will house a five-storey structure with IT facilities, two floors of office spaces, three floors of commercial and retail spaces, and rooftop restaurants.

The center will have direct access to the 12-storey Fairfield Inn & Suites.

“We will continue our expansion in the mixed use market,” API president and chief executive officer (CEO) Ray Go Manigsaca adding that Cebu’s unrelenting growth in the tourism sector pushes the rise of hotel room demand.

“We will bring in more international hotel brands,” added Manigsaca.

Mahi is envisioned to be a premier lifestyle destination in Mactan.

API is the developer of AppleOne Equicom Tower in Cebu Business Park, AppleOne Banawa Heights.

Its subsidiary AppleOne Mactan, Inc. is the developer of the forthcoming five-star Sheraton Cebu Mactan Resort, and The Residences at Sheraton Cebu Mactan Resort.
