Hope in the river

As the International River Summit (IRS) comes closer, more and more participation is evident. Business social responsibility is demonstrated more evidently through the involvement of the private sector in the planning and development of the river as a symbol of hope. Why do I say so?

If you have been to Butuanon River, which is the focal point of this year’s IRS you would wonder how it could be revived, let alone reverted to a thriving ecosystem that is host to a rich marine life. I have to bow down to the audacity of the local government of Mandaue City in taking up this strategic move to bring back that hope for a beautiful Butuanon.

Now Mr. Charlie H. Liu of Matimco Inc. and Vicsal Foundation Inc. started the fund for the viewing deck that will be set up in the Butuanon area. The Metro Retailer group, Metro Cebu Water District, Mactan Rock Corporation, GalvaPhil Inc. and San Miguel Corporation have also supported this insurmountable task of rebuilding the Butuanon River belieiving in the cause and the necessity to make this water body live again.

The communities along the banks have recognized the move as beneficial as well and have taken a stance of least resistance to movements that are being done in their area if dwelling. With the IRS it is our hope that indeed the Butuanon River will be given this chance to sparkle and flow again.
