The Do's and Don'ts when selling your car

When it's time to sell a car, most owners are always concerned about selling it quick with the highest price possible. For those who have invested  a great deal in maintenance and upgrades, it's understandable that the seller would want to have it sold at the highest price possible.

Unfortunately, cost isn't the only concern you should have when selling your car. There are scammers who have evolved through the changing times and have become more advanced. Nowadays, it's easy to find yourself in a bad situation if you're not careful. Keeping yourself safe when selling your car is simple with these the following tips that I am about to enumerate and explain. These tips will help you safely sell your car to the right buyer for the right price.

Know The Market Value of Your Car

Know the Market Value of your Car by scrolling through Classified Ads and Buy and Sell pages in the Newspapers, Magazines and the Internet.  Going to your local used Car dealer can also help you determine the right price for your car.

Be careful, buyers will often attempt to haggle with you, telling you that your car's market value is much lower than you think it is. The "mechanic technic" is another way of devaluating.  The buyer will bring a mechanic and tell you the car has numerous issues and isn't worth as much as you expected.

Avoid this by keeping all your maintenance receipts documented and having your own trusted mechanic contact number handy in case some buyer starts to talk about some issues.

Negotiate with the buyer knowing the worth of what your selling and don't buckle against their claims to the contrary.

Meet-ups should be in Public Places

Once you've connected with a buyer and you've decided to meet up, make sure you always do so in a well-lit, well-populated place. Mall or Gas Station parking lots during office hours or right before 6 p.m. meets are safer, and will decrease the risk of a violent car nap incident.Never let a buyer come to your home unless you know him.

Don't Accept Checks

Tell buyers that you'll accept cash only and you'd be happy to drive to the bank and negotiate payment there. If that limits your market, there are a few ways to ensure payment. Call a trusted bank to verify the funds before handing over the keys. You can also deposit the check and have it cleared before you hand over the keys.

Be Careful with Test Drives

It's expected that a potential buyer will ask for a test drive before purchasing your vehicle. This is somehow a "Standard Operating Procedure." However, this gives a criminal the perfect opportunity to steal your car.

Always ask for proper identification from the buyer before a test drive. Verify the name of the buyer by searching through Facebook or asking common friends. Make sure also to go along for the test drive or ask a trusted aide to go with the buyer. Test in a safe area. If he insist to bring the car to a congested area, ensure that you are on the safe side of the deal by letting him know that if the buyer bumps it, the deal is closed.  That can be put into writing.

Remember these tips and get the most out of selling your car without putting yourself into any complications.
