If you’re company is thinking of getting the services of an online marketer cum social media expert, think again. Those who claim to know or are “experienced” in these areas may not be authentic online marketers.
Because hardcore and good online marketers do not offer their services to anyone but to themselves. Come to think of it, if you had special abilities in online marketing, why would you choose to get paid by another but do not benefit from the profit he makes from your skills? Why would you be willing to trade your expertise for a fixed price when you can make more money online?
True blue online marketers are those who have made it big from the products they sell in the Internet. I’ve talked to many of them and not one of them are interested to work or offer their service to any person or corporation. This can only mean that these people do not only have the knack to do successful online campaigns, but they are in themselves accomplished entrepreneurs working mostly anywhere with just their mobile phones or laptops.
So what about those people who are offering their online marketing or social media services? How do we know if they are as better than those hardnosed marketers that I have mentioned? Well, the thing is, there is really no way of knowing unless that provider has some real sales record to show that he made good money in the campaigns he did. But that’s just too much to ask. But the fact that they are offering their “expertise” to you should get you wondering why they are doing it for a fee than for profit.
Those who claim to be experts usually brag their blogs or Facebook followers. They are also fond of picking up tech terms that unsuspecting clients can’t relate to. Word’s like Google algorithm, metatags, sandbox, webspiders and etcetera, are often dropped to mesmerize clients into believing that they are talking to a web whiz until they get into the trap of signing a contract that offers no guarantee of success.
And the bad thing about it is that many of them are not really experienced in selling online products. What they show is Facebook pages that they do not own, a blog with so many followers, or some good web statistics of a past campaign. All of these are not significant indicators that they can help you generate leads much less an assurance that they are going to do a good job for you.
As I have said, real online marketers are not for hire. If you are in need of one and someone comes to you and says he’s some kind of a social media professional or a search engine specialist, better be wary. They are like you and me who just knew about it because they learn it from Youtube. In other words, anyone can be a social media or search engine marketer by looking it up in Google. You can be, in fact, your very own online marketer if you just spend some time to do it.
Like for more than 10 years of lecturing online marketing in schools and in real estate, it’s such a pride to see people who have made their own fortune not by adopting the techniques I taught them but by the innovation they made out of it. One example of which is my colleague in real estate who sold close to 200M pesos of condos in three months’ time using her Facebook! As a matter of fact, you will get to know how she did it when you attend my free online marketing seminar for real estate.
Another thing that you should know about online marketing is the perception and reception of your products or service online. People who offer online marketing services may not be familiar of the industry that you are into and that’s the reason why you should not entrust your online marketing budgets to just any Tom, Dick or Harry who persuades you that he can blow a good online campaign for your products. You need a marketer who can put up a good fight against your competitors. Which means, before choosing an online marketer, he must have some good background about your industry.
I have an online marketing seminar on February 9 in which the venue will be announced in my next column. This is a free seminar on some of the basic things you know about online campaigns and how you can innovate your own campaign using the tools and techniques that I am also using.
If you wish attend this seminar, shoot me an email or send me a text message through 09065170202.
