Telco taps property developers for fiber-optic service coverage

CEBU, Philippines - A telecommunications firm has expanded its partnership with property developers to provide Internet services supported by its fiber-optic technology.

Yesterday, the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) signed a deal with Cebu-based Landtraders World Properties Corp. (LWPC) to provide fiber optic-backed data service to real estate projects of the latter.

Ivan Kendrick Alvarez, sales manager at PLDT, told a press interview the telecoms firm has existing partnerships with around other 20 property developers in Cebu for the same purpose.

Alvarez claimed that continuous innovation in delivering fast Internet service is important in its partnership with developers.

PLDT HOME Fibr uses fiber optic cables to deliver broadband services to households with speed of up to 100 Mbps (Megabits per second).

The fiber-optic technology has symmetrical speed feature that will provide users with equal upload and download speeds, the company said.

Last month, PLDT also launched the country’s first gigabit Internet plan supported by its fiber-optic technology which uses glass (or plastic) threads (fibers) to transmit data.

Fiber optics has several advantages over traditional metal communications lines.  (FREEMAN)
