The power of detachment

The priest in his homily reminded the parishioners not to be too attached to corporeal things because when we leave this world, we can bring nothing. He said, “Look at the corpse. You would notice that his hands are opened. It shows that he brings nothing. We were born with nothing and so we will leave this world with nothing. What is important is we practice compassion and kindness. These godly gesture can make a difference in this world.”

“Attachment can cause much pain, frustration, stress, anger and sadness ,” said a wise man. But when we embrace the impermanence of life, it can bring joy to our lives and we can appreciate the painful beauty of this temporary existence.

The “ tinybuddha website,” states that impermanence is an absolute guarantee in life.  Nothing in this world is a guarantee. Let us promise to ourselves that no matter what life has thrown at us or will throw at us, we will adjust.

Robert Ringer in his website commented, “Detachment is an incredibly powerful that I wish I had understood it much earlier in life. The more you struggle against the unpleasant circumstances of the moment, the more time and energy you waste. Accepting your current situation means detaching yourself from the pain it causing.”

Vishnu, a life coach in “tinybuddha website,” points out the following life’s lessons in embracing change and impermanence in life:

•Reduce expectations. In life, one must learn that nothing lasts forever. When you set unreasonable expectation, and don’t expect or demand a particular outcome, you’re better be able to manage any change that do come your way. Unreasonable expectations of life, however, will likely be met with loss, disappointment, and pain.

•Acknowledge change. Be aware that change can happen in your life. This means understanding that things can and will be different from how they are now. Acknowledging change is allowing it to happen when it unfolds, instead of approaching change from a place of denial and resistance.

•Accept change. Instead of resisting, allow change to unfold and try to understand what’s transforming and why. Circumstances will not turn out the way you want them to, and it’s perfectly all right. Embracing the situation can help you deal with the change effectively making the necessary shift in your life. Embracing change will help you move forward after the event.

•Learn from the experience. If you accept and embrace change, you will start looking for and finding lessons in it. When you refuse to accept the dramatic changes in your life, you’ll be distraught and life would have no meaning. Change becomes your greatest teacher, but only if you give yourself permission to learn from it. It can bring you new strength into your life and surprisingly more inner peace. Your inner being will be filled with courage, calmness, and collected.
