CEBU, Philippines- The Cebu Bankers Club has sought for continued coordination with the police to ensure that the banking community in Cebu is safe from criminal activities, its new elected president said.
CBC President Maximo Eleccion said last week that security is always a top concern in the banking industry.
“We will continue the close coordination with the Philippine National Police such as our monthly security briefing and exchange of intelligence information,” Eleccion said during the CBC induction of new officers.
He shared that Prudencio Gesta, a past president and former security committee chair of the club, was recently appointed to the Police National Advisory Council.
Eleccion said they had already enjoined the Cebu Federation of Rural Banks, Philippine Retailers Association, bank security providers and the Cebu and Mandaue chambers of commerce and industry in stepping up security efforts.
He added they also hope to include representatives from the hotel industry, pawnshops and other financial institutions.
“After all security is everybody’s concern and responsibility,” the bank official noted.
Gino Gonzalez, immediate past president of CBC, also said the monthly meetings they had with regional and provincial police had provided the club’s member banks the information needed to strengthen their security efforts. CBC has about 40 member banks.
Gonzalez emphasized that it is of utmost importance to maintain a safe working environment for financial institutions particularly banks in Cebu. (FREEMAN)
