CEBU, Philippines - Yamaha Motor Philippines, Inc. sent Yamaha Technician Grand Prix 2014 local Champion Calvin Kenneth Tan of Motortrade Malabon to represent the country in the 6th World Technician Grand Prix. It was not created for technicians to compete against one another but to lead all participants to a higher level of professional performance, to give the utmost satisfaction and build greater relationships with customers.

Set in Japan's City of Iwata, widely known as the headquarters of Yamaha Motor Corporation, representatives from around the globe arrived at Yamaha's Technical Academy Global Training Center for their activity.

The individuals were divided into two groups, A & B. Group A included, Julien Okon Pin from France, Jeremy Nigel Read from New Zealand, Tomas Candela Sanchez from Spain, David Graham Jimmy Jackie John Speeks from USA, Guilherme Schulz from Brazil, Gu E from China, Meenakashi Sundaram Subramanian, Irvan Kurniady from Indonesia, Chan Poh Kwon from Malaysia and Sqakornchai Mueanla from Thailand.

Group B was composed of Benedikt Fuchs of Germany, Nicholas John King of Canada, Yoshihiko Tsuchiya of Japan, Sergey Vladimirovich Sugrobov of Russia, Franco Nicolasd Lizaso Cardinnali of Argentina, Wang Chung Yao of Taiwan, Sunikanta Singh Heman of India, Asep Sumpena Suryanigrat of Indonesia, Le Ngoc Tuyen of Vietnam and the only female participant, and Calvin Kenneth Tan of the Philippines.

The 2 Day event would be comprised of four factors, Technical Knowledge which would have a written exam about technical, product and genuine parts knowledge; Basic Maintenance Skills, a practical exam to test accuracy and speed from things such as disassembly, assembly, adjustment, and measurement; Technical Skills, a practical exam for trouble shooting and proper repair on updated technical concerns and the Fuel Injected System; Customer Relations, an interaction with customers in a service facility and citing the importance of genuine parts.

When the contest was over, the awardees were determines but each participant has gained valuable knowledge and an increase of skill throughout the WTGP. For the Customer Service Awards the winners were Guilherme Shculz from Douramoto Brazil, Le Ngoc Tuyen from Minh Hong Phat Vietnam, and Jeremy Nigel Read from Filco Farm & Sports New Zealand.

The Commute Model Winners were, Meenakshi Sundaram Subramanian from Alagendran Autos India who finished at first place. Calvin Kenneth Tan from Yamaha 3s Motortrade Philippines followed at second place. Asep Sumpena Suryanigrat from JG Motor Bandung Indonesia and Wang Chung Yao from Sin-Huang Motor Corporation Taiwan rounded out the awardees at third place.

For the Sports Model Category, the winners were, First Placer Tomas Candela Sanchez from Motos Lean Spain. Placing at second was Benedikt Fuchs from Voelkl Germany, and at 3rd Place was David Graham Jimmy Jackie John Speaks from Houston Motorsports USA.

After the contest, all who were invited were taken to the farewell party in the Iwata Grand Hotel where all participants had the chance to get to know each other more and celebrate everything that they have accomplished.

For our Philippine representative, it was a time to represent his country and showcase the talent that technicians have back home. It was the opportunity to gain more experience and get to a higher level and become a symbol of excellence for everyone in Yamaha Motor Philippines.

To be part of the WTGP is already a grand privilege; it showcases unparalleled skill and supreme knowledge about the brand and each every product. Technicians from around the globe, those who were awarded and wasn't, have been given an irreplaceable gift of greatness, a continued pursuit to perfect their passion, the purpose of Revving Hearts in each corner of the planet.  (FREEMAN)
