CEBU, Philippines - This Valentine’s, Bluewater Resorts (Maribago, Sumilon and Panglao) bring to the Philippines an ancient lovers’ tradition that seals and memorializes one’s love for each other.
Love Locks Friday
More and more couples from all over the world have taken to the act of pledging their love for each other and then attaching a padlock to a special place like a bridge, fence or other public fixtures and monuments to immortalize such love.
This Love Locks tradition has many origins but perhaps the most popular among its stories is the one about the lovers of Most Ljubavi or the Bridge of Love in Serbia. Legend has it that two lovers once made the bridge their favourite meeting place but, in a Shakespearean turn of events, the bridge also witnessed the grief and agony of a love that was lost in the bleak and bloody atmosphere of WWI. Since then, young lovers from the town started to affix their names on padlocks and attaching this to the bridge in order to protect it and the memory of their love.
Love Locks shrines have also sprouted in different parts of the world such as Mount Huangshan in eastern China and the fountain in Montevideo, Uruguay where an inscription reads, “The legend of this young fountain tells us that if a lock with the initials of two people in love is placed in it, they will return together to the fountain and their love will be forever locked.“
This Friday, February 14, you too can experience the magic of Love Locks. Bluewater Resorts have installed a Love Lock shrine/tree in each of its property so that during Valentine’s and the rest of the year, lovers can come in and attach their own padlocks to immortalize their love. These padlocks will become permanent fixture in the resorts and will become a shrine for your love to each other for many years to come.
