CEBU, Philippines - A logistics provider recently is offering of free shipment of relief goods and free transport services for medical volunteers, volunteer groups and media practitioners to the earthquake-jolted province of Bohol.
Feeling the need to extend assistance to the Boholanos, the 2GO Group Inc. earlier announced its initiative to offer free shipment and free ride to the calamity-hit province through the company’s domestic shipping services.
“As a good corporate citizen, 2GO cannot ignore the cries for help and the need to get Bohol back on its feet,†the company said in a statement.
Private organizations, civic groups, government agencies, and concerned individuals may send their relief goods through 2GO Shipping. It opened a part of the SuperCat Terminal in Pier 4 as drop-off center.
“Members of the media who intend to cover the aftermath of the quake or to check on the plight of their families and relatives in Bohol will also be given free accommodation in any of the SuperCat’s three scheduled trips,†the statement said.
It added that medical volunteers and volunteer groups will likewise be accommodated for free.
Schedule of 2GO trips from Cebu to Tagbilaran starts from 6:30 AM, 11 AM and 3:30 PM while trips from Tagbilaran to Cebu are scheduled at 8:45 AM, 1:15 PM and 5:45 PM.
Last October 15, a 7.2-magnitude quake hit the provinces of Bohol and Cebu at 8:12 AM, considered by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) to be the strongest tremor felt in the Visayas and Mindanao regions in 23 years.
If the state seismologists were to describe, the earthquake that destroyed historic churches, damaged modern buildings and caused fatalities was 32 times as strong as the atomic bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima during the Second World War. /JMD (FREEMAN)
