MANILA, Philippines — Iniulat kahapon ng Phi­lippine Institute of Volcano­logy and Seismology (Phivolcs) na nakitaan ng isang bagong “summit lava dome” ang bunganga ng Bulkang Mayon.

Ayon sa Phivolcs, nakapagtala rin sila ng 59 rockfall events at isang volcanic earthquake sa Bulkang ­Mayon sa nakalipas na 24 oras.

Ang rockfall events ay napadpad sa southern portion at Southeastern gullies sa loob ng 1,500 metro mula sa bunganga ng bulkan.

Sa kabuuan, nasa 579 na rockfall events na ang naitatala sa bulkan simula noong Hunyo 1, 2023. Nakitaan pa rin ito ng katamtaman at tuluy-tuloy na degassing activity mula sa crater na lumikha ng steam-laden plumes.

Umaabot naman sa  417 toneladang sulfur dioxide ang ibinuga nito kahapon.

Ipinaalala ng PHIVOLCS na habang nanatiling nakataas sa alert level 3 ang Mayon Volcano at hindi isinasantabi ang posibilidad na magkaroon ng pagsabog sa naturang bulkan.
