[Title] => Tonette Martel’s ‘Between East and West’ : Traveling with mind and body
[Summary] =>
Between East and West may sound at first like a geo-political treatise on East-West relations, or a novel about a Fil-Am child struggling underneath the burden of his cross-cultural heritage. But in Tonette Martel’s hands, Between East and West takes flight as a very unique travel book/collection of thought-provoking essays, and proves that, here in the Philippines, publishers (in this case, Anvil Publishing) are still ready to print books that are a challenge to peruse and absorb. Tonette is not out to give us a quick travel fix, or merely entertain.

[Title] => Endangered Species: An oasis of good food
[Summary] =>
Its a jungle out there. Seek refuge at Endangered Species Café and Bar in Malate, Manila. Relax in its inviting surroundings comfortable chairs, tables well-spaced from each other and friendly service. The restaurant, now on its third incarnation (first it was Weinstube, then Tonettes, before it became Endangered), has been an oasis of good food and ambience for almost two decades. And yes, it is still owned and personally managed by Tonette Salcedo.

[Title] => Samar has world's smallest living girl
[Summary] =>
CATARMAN, Northern Samar -- First there was the "dwarf" Dante Varona of
Mayorga, Leyte. Now comes Antonia "Tonette" Tobis, perhaps the world's smallest
living girl.
At eight years and five months old, Tonette stands only 25 inches tall, or
roughly 60 centimeters, and weighs 5.4 kilos, a physiological phenomenon that
doctors say is a form of dwarfism.
According to the 1998 Guinness Book of Records, 25.5-inch tall Madge Bester,
born on April 26, 1963 in Johannesburg, South Africa, holds the record as the
"shortest living woman" in the world.
Tonette, who was born on Aug.
