Dominant carrier Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) is looking at raising funds within the second half to bankroll its P32-billion capital expenditure program this year.

This will bring to 81 the total number of coaches plying the route from the original 73.

The Philippines is definitely joining the worldwide race to capitalize on wireless technology, if the recent spate of advertisement for WAP (Wireless Applications Protocol) 'phones' is an indicator. Webtechnologies Asia Inc., a local wireless applications developer, said WAP technology allows wireless devices and phones to access the Internet.

Ian Ong, WAP Systems head at Webtechnologies Asia Inc. said, "Mobile Media, our wireless applications and content group, has developed WAP-portfolioTM, the Philippines' first interactive applications range.
