[Title] => MNLF, MILF urged to back ARMM polls
[Summary] => Sen. Blas Ople asked the top command of the Moro National Liberation Front and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front yesterday to support the plebiscite on Tuesday in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
Top leaders of the two groups signed a unification agreement several days ago in Kuala Lumpur.
Ople said an autonomous government provides an "intelligent option" to the demand for independence raised by the MILF, a group that broke away from the MNLF to press the campaign for a Bangsamoro nation.

[Title] => Info drive for ARMM plebiscite lacks funds
[Summary] => COTABATO CITY Efforts to inform the public about the political intricacies of the Aug. 14 plebiscite for expanded Mindanao autonomy, to be held in 14 provinces and 10 cities, are beset with financial constraints and its proponents are worried people would vote against it due to lack of knowledge on the issue.
Lawyer Clarita Callar, Region 12 director of the Commission on Elections, told Catholic radio station dxMS that the Comelec, indeed, lacks funds to sustain an extensive drive to educate residents in Central Mindanao on the expansion of autonomy.

[Title] => Senate OKs amendments to ARMM Organic Act
[Summary] => The Senate approved on third and final reading yesterday a bill seeking to amend the Organic Act of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) by expanding its area of coverage, giving more autonomy to local officials and fleshing out the Jakarta Agreement signed by the government and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) in 1996.
Senate President Aquilino Pimentel Jr. said that once the amended Organic Act becomes a law, a plebiscite will be held on May 14, to coincide with the national elections.
