URDANETA CITY – After a month of surveillance and intelligence gathering, police finally arrested the suspected triggerman in the killing of the engineer-son of a councilor here.


Superintendent Jimili Macaraeg, city police chief, said Chief Superintendent Leopoldo Bataoil, Ilocos regional police director, has commended Task Force Rene for the arrest of Vicente Simon, 31, tagged in last month’s gunslaying of engineer Rene Parayno, son of councilor Julio Parayno.

Police have arrested one of two suspects in the murder of a barangay chairman who was shot dead last Monday in Caloocan City.


Andy Bernardo, 25, who was tagged as the gunman, was nabbed last Tuesday at a hideout in Deparo, Caloocan City.  Mayor Enrico Echiverri presented him to reporters yesterday.


Last Monday, Bernardo walked up to Lauro del Rosario, 46, from behind and shot him once in the temple with a .45 caliber pistol at close range while Del Rosario was unloading goods in front of his store, also in Deparo, at around 6 a.m.

The suspect was  described as between 25-30 years old, 5’4’’ to 5’5’’ in height, white complexioned, slim built and sporting a clean-cut black hair.


Superintendent Jimili Macaraeg,  NPD-DIID chief  said  the family of the victim, Augusto "Aging" Lisan, has yet to hear from the suspects.

Five witnesses who came forward to volunteer information on the suspects in the murder of tabloid photojournalist Alberto Orsolino last Tuesday in Caloocan City provided cops  with at least two names of possible gunmen, police said.


"The leads are good but we need to find the suspects," Superintendent Jimili Macaraeg, Northern Police District (NPD) intelligence and investigation division chief, said.


Macaraeg disclosed that based on initial information gathered by police investigators, Orsolino’s slay is not worked-related.
